Service Manager

Position Title: Service Manager

Department: Service

Position Reports to: Complex Service Manager

 

Summary of Position

The Service Manager is responsible for the strategic direction and leadership of the service department which includes technicians, mechanics, shop repair and service administration. The Service Manager oversees the development and direction of the service team to drive the growth of revenue, technical productivity and promote high quality customer satisfaction. He or she builds customer relationships and ensures the integration of strategic plans with company operations. The overall focus of this role is to convert service growth opportunities, effectively manage the service department staff and drive process improvements in the delivery of high quality equipment service.

Duties and Responsibilities

Duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Oversee and manage the service department’s operations and scheduling.
  • Ensure completion of shop maintenance and repair work.
  • Give clear directions and expectations to technicians on the shop floor for jobs to be done.
  • Address customer complaints and inquiries in a courteous, professional manner.
  • Responsible for maintaining appropriate staff levels to meet requirements of the shop.
  • Responsible for staff recruitment, hiring, terminations and performance management.
  • Manage the morale in the shop by setting and demonstrating a strong business ethic for dealing with employees, suppliers and customers.
  • Ensure that all reporting employees adhere to company policies and procedures.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the shop, as well as, a safe work environment for employees.
  • Provide clear communication with customers, staff and other department heads.
  • Provide accurate estimates for service jobs.
  • Schedule pickup, deliveries, and repair timeline of customer and internal equipment, schedule service calls for road technicians.
  • Review and finalize all work orders or invoices for billing to customers.
  • Book appropriate product training for technicians.
  • Organize and control expenses to meet budget expectations.

Education 

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Post secondary diploma or degree in a mechanical field and/or business administration is preferred.

Technical/Professional Knowledge

  • Previous management experience in a technical environment with proven leadership abilities.
  • Effective leadership skills with a strong focus on operations and business processes.
  • Ability to identify key issues.
  • Ability to creatively or strategically overcome internal challenges or obstacles.
  • Attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
  • High level of integrity, discretion and accountability.
  • Proven mechanical abilities and strong working knowledge of mechanical application or repair techniques.
  • Ability to work independently in a busy environment.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work well under pressure.
  • Ability to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically and professionally at all times.
  • Ability to perform basic calculations and mathematical figures. 

Work Conditions

  • Overtime as required.
  • Hazards associated with the trade.
  • Work both indoors and outdoors.
  • May be exposed to high levels of noise.

Compensation

Compensation will depend upon experience and will include benefits.
